The Mission
The Pick gets people together into small ensembles, PickUp Bands, that not only bring out the existing strengths of the members but challenge them to develop and hone new skills.
Enhanced by an environment where each person is focused on making the others sound their best, the result can be a situation where "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" and everyone can feel good about the results.
How it Works
- PickUp Bands with 3-6 members of similar levels and interests and a good instrumental composition are formed
- Members meet once a week for 6 weeks along with a band coach who will help with arrangements, band dynamics, harmonies, and material selection
- At the end of the session, each PickUp Band will perform a short opening set on a Bluegrass Monday at Amnesia
- Private and Small Groups sessions on Bluegrass Harmony Singing are also available

| Changes to the Jam starting October 2010 |
Starting in October, 2010, The 3rd Monday Jam will become The Pick Jam and will be held 2 times a month - the 2nd and 4th Monday - and be hosted by a revolving crew of jammers. As we transition to the new schedule, the only October Jam date will be held on October 25, and November will continue with the full 2nd and 4th Monday schedule.
It's not as complicated as all that. Just stop by here to find jam dates or suscribe to the jam mailing list for updates! |

| PickUp Band Hiatus - Try Take the Stage! |
No new PickUp Bands will be forming for a while but I highly recommend checking out the Take the Stage program being offered through The Freight & Salvage.
I've coached several of these bands myself and it's always a great experience. You'll go from complete strangers to trusted bandmates and end up putting on a show you'll never forget on stage of The Freight. Check it out! |

| New Pick T-Shirts |
"Bluegrass. The only thing that gets better the more you pick at it." I uploaded a t-shirt design to Cafe Press that I think is pretty funny. Check 'em out. (more) |
